
Baggage Rules and Regulations

Checked baggage
Checked baggage is the baggage that goes into an airplane's cargo hold for which the carrier issues a baggage check (included in the ticket) and one baggage identification tag per each piece of baggage.
Checked baggage is carried in the hold of an aircraft the passenger is travelling on.
Baggage restrictions
We may refuse to carry checked baggage which is:
- Posing a risk to the aircraft, persons or property;
- Likely to be damaged during air carriage;
- Not properly and securely packed;
- Forbidden by applicable laws, regulations or orders of any State to be carried from, into or over;
- Unsuitable for air carriage due to its weight, size or nature;
- Not passenger’s own property.
Checked baggage may not contain the following items:
- Fragile items.
- Perishables.
- Money.
- Jewellery.
- Valuable items.
- Business, bonds and other valuable papers.
- Travel documents.
- Medical certificates.
- Medicines.
- Laptops and other personal electronic devices.
- Musical instruments, paintings, etc.
We recommend that the above-mentioned items are carried as cabin or carry-on baggage.
Conditions of carriage
All checked baggage must be properly packed in rigid suitcases or similar containers to ensure safe carriage.
Each piece of checked baggage must show the passenger’s name and address. Alternatively, a special “Name label” (issued at check-in) must be attached to the passenger baggage.
The following items for which size, weight, volume and nature limits apply may be carried as checked baggage with the prior consent of the carrier(s) only at the time of booking:
- Sporting equipment;
- Musical instruments;
- Fragile and valuable items;
- Domestic pet animals etc...
Hand baggage
Hand baggage is the baggage that passenger takes onto an aircraft under her/his personal custody.
UIA has a right to refuse to carry hand baggage which:
- Poses a risk to the aircraft, persons or property;
- Is likely to be damaged during air carriage;
- Is not properly and securely packed;
- Does not meet size, weight and nature limits requirements;
- Does not fit under the seat or which cannot be stowed in the overhead lockers (see Free hand baggage allowance).
Items refused by the security check staff are carried in hold.
Rules of hand baggage stowing - Hand baggage shall be stowed in the overhead lockers or under the seat in front of the passenger in the aircraft cabin.
- Hand baggage must not be stowed in emergency rows, first rows, aisle and restrict the access to the safety equipment storage place.
- Unsuitable hand baggage shall be removed at a departure gate, loaded into the hold and carried as checked baggage.
- Musical instruments;
- Works of art;
- Electronic equipment.
- The baggage weight exceeds the maximum allowed weight for your free hand baggage;
- A passenger is not willing to accept the inconvenience of having hand baggage stowed under the seat or in the overhead lockers;
- It is feasible to properly secure such item on the seat.
- the battery is disconnected;
- the terminals are insulated to prevent accidental short circuits;
- the battery is securely attached to the wheelchair.

- the battery is securely attached to the wheelchair.
- the outside packaging must be leak-tight, impervious to battery fluid and be protected against upset by securing in cargo compartments using proper securement means (other than by bracing with freight or baggage) such as by use of restraining straps, brackets or holders;
- batteries must be protected against short circuits, secured upright in the outside packaging and surrounded by compatible absorbent material sufficient to absorb their total liquid contents;
Bulky, fragile and valuable cabin baggage
Bulky, fragile and valuable cabin baggage is the baggage which, due to its nature, is not suitable for loading in hold. Such baggage may be carried in the cabin, provided the conditions mentioned in this topic are met.

Wheelchairs
Please note that wheelchairs shall only be accepted as checked baggage to ensure flight safety, provided the following is complied with.
Non-spillable batteries (dry cell battery powered wheelchair)
Dry-cell battery-powered wheelchairs may be accepted for carriage with their batteries, provided that:
Spillable batteries (wet cell battery wheelchair – WCBW)
Wheelchairs powered by spillable batteries may be accepted for carriage, provided
If a wheelchair powered by a spillable battery cannot be loaded, stowed, secured and unloaded always in an upright position, the battery must be removed and the wheelchair may then be carried as checked baggage without restriction.
The removed battery must be carried in a strong, rigid outside packaging as follows:
Manual power folding wheelchair – WCMP
Manual power folding wheelchair is accepted for carriage as checked baggage without any special limitations.
